The Golden Monkeys

These are also rare apes inhabiting the jungles of volcanoes national park. Just as other primates, golden monkeys also live in groups and usually feed on bamboo shoots, wild fruits and many other edible leaves in the forests. Golden monkeys are endemic to the Virunga volcanoes area meaning that it’s the only place where they can be viewed. Tracking these primates is also very exciting and it’s an activity tourists should not miss while in Rwanda.

The Wildlife At Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is located eastern Rwanda and it’s the only place in Rwanda where one can view wildlife in savanna vegetation. Being the only savanna national park in Rwanda, Akagera national park is a home to wild animals like lions that were just recently re introduced in the country after over 20 years of extinction, giraffes, vervet monkeys, zebras, baboons, hippos, crocodiles, a number of antelopes plus a number of bird species. Most of the wildlife in Akagera can be viewed by tourists on game drives and while on a boat cruise along lake Ihema. All those interested in savanna wildlife viewing in Rwanda should not hesitate visiting Akagera national park.

The Chimpanzees In Nyungwe Forest

Stretching in southwestern Rwanda is Nyungwe forest one of the most diverse ecosystem in Rwanda and Africa at large. This huge forests has some of the oldest tree species in east and central Africa and a home to Rwanda’s chimpanzees some of the closest primates to human beings. There is a reasonable number of chimpanzees in this forest and any one going for chimpanzee tracking is surely guaranteed of viewing them. Lake Kivu

Lake Kivu is a methane lake and the biggest water body in Rwanda. Stretching along the western Rwanda border, lake Kivu can best explored on excursion boat trips to some of the islands (Amahoro and napoleon islands). Lake Kivu also has beaches where one can relax while sunbathing. There are a number of resorts and hotels around lake Kivu that over great views of the lake where one can relax.

Gishwati Mukura eco destination

This is located in western Rwanda and was recently turned into a national park. The forest extends several kilometers and it’s a home to a number of wildlife species like birds, monkeys, baboons and a number of small antelopes. Tourists here can engage in a number of nature activities like nature walks, birding and many others.
